Experts reassure public after plane crash, emphasizing air travel safety
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Following the Potomac plane crash, local and national aviation experts are urging the public not to be discouraged from flying.
While investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, aviation professionals emphasize that air travel remains the safest mode of transportation.
Officials say it may take time to fully determine the factors behind the crash. In the meantime, aviation authorities expect adjustments in safety protocols for boarding and in-flight operations.
Despite the tragedy, experts continue to highlight the robustness of current safety standards in the airline industry.
Monty Montgomery, the Department Head of Aviation at Louisiana Tech University, reaffirmed confidence in the industry’s rigorous safety measures.
“They do a remarkable job every day to keep 45,000 flights per day safe,” Montgomery said.
Mike Slack, a former pilot and aviation lawyer, echoed Montgomery’s sentiments, stressing that the U.S. aviation system is one of the safest in the world.
“Don’t make any mistake about it, it’s very safe. We have the best safety network in the U.S. Having said that, there are aspects of it that need attention,” Slack noted.
Aviation experts point to advancements in aircraft technology, strict regulatory oversight, and comprehensive pilot training as key factors that continue to make flying one of the safest means of transportation.
