The best places to travel in 2020: a month by month guide

Just like that, we're reached the end of the decade.

While we don't quite know where the time has gone, what we do know is that we are already planning our holidays for 2020.

With an average of 25 annual leave days for workers in the UK, the hardest question is always where to spend your precious holidays each year.

To help you out, we have curated an list of the 10 best places to go during each month of the year - 120 destination ideas in total.

Whether you want a snowy escape at the bottom of the world or a sun-filled holiday in the tropics, below is a guide to help fuel your wanderlust.

With the festive season over and seemingly endless dreary weather on the horizon, January is arguably one of the best times of the year to book a sunny holiday. Why not head to Patagonia, Slovenia's Lake Bled or New Zealand for a chance to clear your head? Or, if you're after some winter sun, try Jamaica or Bali.

The coldest winds tend to hit in February and every year they catch us by surprise, which is why this month we tend to focus on finding somewhere warm to holiday. Morocco, Brazil and Cambodia are all wonderfully humid and exotic while Switzerland and Norway offer nearby winter wonderlands.

Whether you want to enjoy some early summer rays or hit the last of the powdery pistes, March is all about searching for blue skies. Head to Cuba for endless sunshine or to the Maldives to experience the end of its high season. March is also a great time to visit Dublin for St. Patrick's Day or Rajasthan in India where the weather will be dry but not too hot.

Thanks to the Easter weekend, April has long been a favourite time of the year for Brits to take holidays. This April, consider heading to Ethiopia during the dry season for out-of-this-world landscapes, Japan for cherry blossom season and to Lisbon for cheap flights and warm days.

October marks a change of season as the leaves turn from green to gold, but there are still places you can go to chase the warmer weather. Christmas arrives early to the UK in November when the Oxford Street Christmas lights in London are turned on at the beginning of the month.
