THE good news for Brisbane Roar is that Danish enforcer Thomas Kristensen has finally hit his straps - the bad news is that it may have come too late to save their A-League season.

Dogged by hamstring, back and neck problems, Kristensen had made just 12 appearances this season, and in a number of them he wasn’t fully fit.

It’s only now that the 34-year-old midfielder believes he’s hitting top form.

There’s no doubt the Roar are a better side when Kristensen is at his imposing best in the engine room.

However, time is fast running out for eighth-placed Brisbane.

They have five regular season games remaining – starting with Saturday night’s away clash against competition leaders Sydney FC ¬ and are four points outside of the top six.

“It’s the final call, we need to get some points,” Kristensen said.

“You can say like you’d like to have it in your own hands, and it’s not in our hands at the moment, but we’ll take it one game at a time and see if we can sneak in.”

Kristensen said after a “tough five months” he was “just getting going”.

“I’m good to go. I’ll be hitting max speed at the end of season ¬ that’s good,” he said.

“Some players might be a little bit tired towards the end of the season, but … I’m fit and hopefully I can play the last five games without any issues.”

Sydney are aiming for a hat-trick of wins over Brisbane this season, having beaten the Roar 3-1 at Allianz Stadium on November 25 and 3-0 at Suncorp Stadium on January 8.

However, the Sky Blues have won just one of their past six matches in all competitions, including Tuesday night’s 1-1 AFC Champions League draw with Kashima Antlers in Japan on Tuesday night.

“Of course if we can keep the tempo up, then the last 20 minutes there might be some signs of the travelling but we’ll have to see,” Kristensen said.
