An Alabama man remains in critical condition at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson after a brutal hatchet attack. Jake Couch, who was severely injured in the neck, has been clinging to life for six days, according to investigators.

His brother, Luke Couch, has traveled from near Huntsville, Alabama, to be by Jake's side. "I don't think I can cry anymore, I've done nothing but cry since I've been here," Luke said.

The attack occurred in broad daylight while Jake and his wife were waiting at a bus stop at Sixth Avenue and Broadway. The couple was returning home to Alabama after a trip to California. Surveillance footage captured Daniel Michael attacking Jake and then casually leaving the scene.

"It hurts knowing I couldn't be there to protect him," Luke said.

Police arrested Michael three days later. Court documents reveal that investigators found the hatchet at Michael's home, and he confessed to the attack. "Just senseless no reason. He would give you the shirt off his back and I mean that in the literal sense, he had the biggest heart," Luke said.

Michael is currently facing two counts of aggravated assault. If Jake does not survive, the charges could become more serious. "It's not fair and I won't stop. I'll come down here to Tucson and I will make sure and do everything in my ability to make sure this never happens to anyone else again," Luke said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for their emergency trip. You can donate at the following link.
