Ethan Robson got on the scoresheet to help Gateshead to a National League victory.

The Carlisle United midfielder marked his second appearance for the north-east side with what proved the winning goal.

Robson, who recently joined Carl Magnay’s side for the rest of the season, netted in the 38th minute of Gateshead’s 2-1 home win over Dagenham & Redbridge (WATCH BELOW).

The 28-year-old started the game and played 77 minutes before being replaced, as the International Stadium outfit maintained their play-off challenge in sixth position.

Next for Robson will be a trip to third-placed Forest Green Rovers next weekend.

North of the border, Taylor Charters enjoyed derby success after helping Queen of the South to a 2-0 win at Annan Athletic.

The Blues man played the full game at left-back as Peter Murphy’s side prevailed at Galabank.

It was Charters’ tenth appearance for the Doonhamers, who are fourth in the table ahead of a home clash with Montrose next Saturday in Scottish League One.

In National League North, Sam Hetherington made a goalscoring return to action as a substitute in Darlington’s 4-2 win over Farsley Celtic.

The United teenager came off the bench in the 64th minute – and went through to score 13 minutes later (WATCH BELOW) as the Quakers sealed the points.

It was Hetherington’s second goal for Steve Watson’s side, who sit 11th ahead of a trip to Chester next weekend.

There was a fruitless Scottish Premiership outing for Luke Armstrong, meanwhile, as Motherwell lost 2-0 at Kilmarnock.

Armstrong was in the Motherwell starting XI and was replaced on 70 minutes as they were beaten. Next for the striker and his team-mates is a home clash with Heart of Midlothian next Saturday.

Workington Reds handed latest starts to United loan duo Aran Fitzpatrick and Jake Allan in their Northern Premier League Premier Division trip to champions Macclesfield.

Both played the full game as Mark Fell’s side raced into an early two-goal lead through Dav Symington and Jamie Allen before Robbie Savage’s hosts overturned things and then won it late on.

Next for 15th-placed Reds and their young Blues pair is a trip to Leek Town next weekend.

In Northern League Division One, there was a 2-1 defeat for Dan Hopper and Penrith as Darren Edmondson’s side lost to West Allotment Celtic.

Carlisle City and their host of young United loanees did not have a game.

In the Premier League, Jarrad Branthwaite earned plaudits for a strong defensive display in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Dean Henderson enjoyed a 2-1 victory with Crystal Palace against rivals Brighton& Hove Albion.

And there was a 12th top-flight goal for Liam Delap, son of Rory, as Ipswich Town lost 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In the Championship, Nahki Wells’ goal proved the winner as Bristol City defeated Watford 2-1 at Ashton Gate.

And James Trafford helped Burnley go top with a 2-1 win at Coventry City.

League One saw Macaulay Gillesphey score as Charlton Athletic fought back for a 2-2 draw with Lincoln City.

Owen Moxon was promoted to the starting line-up as Stockport County won 2-0 at Exeter City, Jack Diamond and Oliver Norwood also in the Hatters XI.

Jon Mellish came off the bench in Wigan Athletic’s 0-0 draw at Leyton Orient, while Jack Marriott sealed a 3-0 win for Wrexham over Burton Albio.

In League Two, two sons of former Carlisle managers were on target, as Calum Kavanagh (son of Graham) scored in a 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra that sent Bradford City top, while Aaron Pressley (son of Steven) netted twice in Barrow’s 3-0 win at MK Dons.

Cole Stockton was on target in Salford City’s 2-2 draw with Gillingham.

Ashley Nadesan scored an injury-tie equaliser to earn Sutton United a 1-1 draw with Southend United in the National League.

In NPL Premier, a Nathan Buddle goal featured as Morpeth Town won 2-1 at Matlock Town.

And in the same division a George Waring strike earned Warrington Rylands a 1-1 draw with Guiseley.

In Northern League Division One, Jason Blackburn scored Guisborough Town’s winner in a 2-1 victory over North Shields.

And Scottish League One saw a Stefan Scougall brace in Alloa Athletic’s 4-1 win at Stenhousemuir.
