The Vallejo Fire Department announced Thursday that in a continued effort to enhance emergency preparedness and interagency coordination, the Solano County Hazardous Materials Team will conduct a large-scale multi-agency emergency response drill on Wednesday at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo.
The exercise will simulate a terrorist attack involving the release of hazardous materials, resulting in multiple traumatic injuries to park employees and visitors.
The Vallejo Fire Department will serve as the hosting management agency for the drill, working in close collaboration with Medic Ambulance and Solano County Office of Emergency Services, along with multiple neighboring fire departments.
While this is a closed training event and not open to the public, community members may notice an increased presence of emergency personnel and vehicles in the area during the drill. The Vallejo Fire Department assures residents that this is a planned exercise and not an actual emergency.
“This drill provides an invaluable opportunity for local and regional emergency response agencies to refine their skills in a realistic, high-stakes scenario,” said Brandon Whitney, Fire Captain with the Vallejo Fire Department. “Training together ensures that we are well-prepared to respond quickly and effectively to large-scale incidents that impact public safety.”
The exercise is designed to test response capabilities, enhance coordination between agencies, and improve operational efficiency in managing complex emergency situations. First responders will practice key elements such as hazardous materials identification and containment, mass casualty triage and treatment, incident command operations, and interagency communication.
