Senate gives final approval to Budget Adjustment Act despite anticipated veto from Gov. Phil Scott
The Budget Adjustment Act, or BAA, is once again heading to Governor Phil Scott's desk after the State Senate gave final approval to the bill in a vote along party lines on Thursday.
Republicans offered up an amendment to put the governor's executive order language into the BAA to help improve its chance of getting a signature from Scott. However, that effort ultimately failed.
Democrats said they still feel that Scott's executive order was an overreach of power and that supporting the amendment would codify that.
Afterward, a vote was held on the bill itself, which still seeks to extend the adverse weather expansion of the Hotel-Motel Voucher Program to the end of June. That vote passed by 17-13.
Meanwhile, Scott said he believes what he did was lawful.
Scott is expected to veto the BAA once again when it arrives on his desk.
