It has been three years since a massive fire destroyed a building at the Bluenose Inn in Bar Harbor, and now a new building is getting ready to welcome guests.
The new Eden Building has now been completed with a grand opening scheduled for May.
The Inn has been sharing pictures of the new rooms and lobby on its Facebook page.
There are fewer rooms in the new Eden Building, but the rooms are bigger that what was there before.
According to the hotel booking, the Eden Building is three stories that have king apartments with a full kitchen with refrigerator, 2-burner cooktop, dishwasher and microwave with an air fry option.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office say the fire in February 2023 was caused by an electrical problem. The investigation also found that the sprinkler system had been shut off.
Firefighters from several towns spent 21 hours battling the fire after flames broke out on Feb. 10, 2023. They were able to keep the fire from spreading to a second building. Smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away.
The inn was closed for the season at the time, and there were no injuries.
Damages to the inn were estimated at $10 million.
This was not the first fire the inn has experienced. The main building of the inn burned in 1994 and was rebuilt.
The inn is owned by Lafayette Hotels, which owns more than 30 hotels in Maine and New Hampshire.
