FLYERS are expected to flock to airports across Scotland as the holiday season approaches.

Whether it’s a weekend city break or a family getaway for the Easter school holidays, travel hubs across the country are gearing up to welcome millions of passengers.

Passenger numbers surge during the summer months, but while we may have our trip planned, suitcases packed, and currency exchanged, one crucial detail is often overlooked – how to get to the airport.

For those who live within driving distance of the terminal, enlisting a willing friend or family member to drop you off – and collect you upon your return – might seem like the easiest option.

However, as is the case with most airports across the UK, motorists in Scotland are required to pay to access designated zones close to the main terminal buildings.

Before reaching their destination, travellers must contend with the cost of being dropped off or picked up, with charges for just a 15-minute stay rising year on year.

The cost of dropping off and picking up varies at Scotland's airports, with some charging £7 for just 15 minutes.

Below is a breakdown of the fees at Scotland’s most popular airports for those jetting off for Easter and summer:

Glasgow Airport's Short Stay Car Park prices:

IF you want to drop off or pick up a passenger at Glasgow Airport, you better be quick, as a driver will be expected to pay a minimum of £7 for just 20 minutes in the designated zone.

  • Up to 20 minutes: £7
  • Up to one hour: £15
  • Up to two hours: £24
  • Up to four hours: £35
  • Up to 24 hours: £60
  • Every 24 hours thereafter: £55

However, if you want to save some money - and time - we told last year how Glasgow airport became the second to trial free parking for holidaymakers who can drop off their bags the night before they fly.

The twilight service allows passengers on morning flights to come to the airport the night before to check in bags and then head straight to security next morning.

The Twilight Bag Drop service is available with three airlines at Glasgow Airport - easyJet, Jet2.com and Tui.

Edinburgh Airport Short Stay Car Park prices:

EDINBURGH airport recently announced they were to hike their prices to drop off or pick up from £5 to £6 in order to encourage passengers to "use public transport".

Elsewhere, the Short Stay parking charges are as follows.

  • 0-15 minutes: £7
  • Up to 30 minutes: £14
  • Up to one hour: £18
  • 1-3 hours: £24
  • 3-7 hours: £35
  • 7-10 hours: £45
  • 10-24 hours: £70

The airport says there is a free drop-off and pick-up area available to flyers, which has recently been upgraded and moved closer to the terminal.

Meanwhile, local residents and users of electric cars qualify for a 50 per cent discount for the first ten minutes at the terminal drop-off point.

Aberdeen Airport Short Stay Car Park prices:

ABERDEEN airport was previously branded a “joke” after it hiked passenger drop-off fees by 10 per cent in February.

Bosses at Aberdeen Airport had revealed the controversial charge would be rising for the third year in a row.

The charge was first introduced to a very poor public response in 2015, but back then it was only £1.

Motorists now have to cough up £5.50 rather than £5 to access the express area at the front of the busy terminal for 15 minutes.

This means the fee has risen by 450 per cent since it was first introduced nine years ago, with the following prices currently in place:

  • 0-15 minutes: £5.50
  • Per minute thereafter: £1.00
  • Flat charge after 30 minutes: £50.00

But there is a free drop-off spot in the long stay car park where drivers can stay for up to an hour.

Travellers can then catch a free shuttle bus to take them to the airport, which takes about two minutes.

Inverness Airport Short Stay Car Parking charges:

INVERNESS airport is one of the cheaper drop-offs on offer - and if you are speedy with your hellos and goodbyes, a motorist can avoid paying altogether.

  • Up to 10 mins Free
  • 10 to 30 mins £3.50
  • 30 mins to 1 hour £9.50
  • 1 – 3 hours £12
  • 3 – 12 hours £18
  • 12 – 24 hours £22

Glasgow Prestwick Airport Short Stay Car Parking charges:

PRESTWICK Airport in Ayrshire, owned by the Scottish Government, operates under a slightly different policy when it comes to drop-off and pick-up charges.

For longer stays, the airport charges £7.50 for one to two hours, £13 for two to four hours, £19 for four to twelve hours, and £31 for twelve to twenty-four hours.
