Police have arrested an Ohio woman, her husband, and her four boyfriends after kidnapping and brutalizing a man in a hotel room for a week - until his mom tracked him down.
Martina Jones, 28, is accused of being at the helm of a hit job which saw the victim, an unnamed 26-year-old man, beaten and starved for nearly a week after he was kidnapped by the polygamist gang.
The victim was reportedly kidnapped on March 14, and beaten with a metal baseball bat, forced to stand for extended periods, and only allowed to eat and drink once a day until he was finally able to contact his mom, who found him bruised at a Red Roof Inn in Maumee.
Jones' husband, Michael Esqueda, 28, and her boyfriends: Aaron Bradshaw, 49, Austin Bradshaw, 28, David Cessna, 26, and Chance Johnston, 27, were arrested on March 22 for the brutal attack.
The group shares multiple children, reports the NY Post.
The polycule drama started when the victim visited Jones' home, he said, and a dog fight broke out. Martina reportedly broke her arm trying to stop the fight but blamed the victim, telling her husband and boyfriends that he 'crippled' her arm.
The Bonnie and Clydes then managed to kidnap the man and hold him for a week until he was rescued on March 21. In seven days, he was only allowed 10 hours of sleep and suffered multiple broken bones after repeated punching and kicking.
All this was allegedly done at the behest of Jones, who police accused of being the 'mastermind' behind brutality. Reports say she gave direct "orders to her boyfriends to beat and assault the victim."
According to Tulsa police, the captors let the victim venture to a Speedway convenience store after seven days, where he was able to notify someone in the store to call his mother.
Maumee Chief of Police Josh Sprow said the victim’s mother raced to the hotel room upon getting a phone call and freed her son. “When she was contacted by this literally a stranger — she knew something was up,” Sprow said.
“It’s clearly a strange situation when you have multiple adult men involved in a relationship with a female and then this whole felonious assault, kidnapping taking place. Definitely not something that is normally happening in our city," added the police chief.
The suspects faced a judge Monday on their charges out of Toledo. The judge set their bond at $200,000 each.
On Thursday, all six were indicted by a grand jury. They are each charged with one count of kidnapping, three counts of felonious assault and two counts of tampering with evidence.
