Another school break is on the horizon.

In much of New York, students see two extended school breaks in the latter half of the academic year. The first is February break week - also known as Presidents Day break week in some districts and midwinter recess in others. But there's a second break week that follows nearly two months later - spring break.

When is spring break in Rochester NY?

In he Rochester region, spring break this year begins on Monday, April 14, and ends Friday, April 18. When including the surrounding weekends, students and staff will have a nine-day recess, from Saturday, April 12, through Sunday, April 20 (Easter Sunday).

Many districts also have staff development or conference days in March and April, but those days vary by district so check your school district's 2024-25 school year calendar for specific dates.

After spring break, most districts have a long stretch before the next holiday - Memorial Day. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26. The next federal holiday - and for many day off school - is Juneteenth - which this year is Thursday, June 19.

Best and worst times to travel for spring break 2025

With travel demand peaking from April 13 to 20, airfare prices are surging 33% compared with the first two weekends of March, according to Hopper's 2025 Spring Break Travel Outlook.

Other peak travel dates include the last two weekends of March and Mother's Day weekend on May 9-11, according to Expedia's Spring Travel Outlook. For the most part, late March through Early April will be the most expensive due to the high demand, Melanie Fish, vice president of global public relations for Expedia Brands, told USA TODAY in an email.

To avoid crowds and high prices, consider traveling in the last week of April or the first week of May. Domestic flights during this period can save you up to $55, and international flights in the last week of April are typically $155 cheaper.

Is it too late to book my spring break trip?

It depends on where you're going. If you're planning to travel internationally, you should book ASAP; prices are only expected to rise. If you can afford some flexibility in your travel dates, there are still cheap flights to the perennial spring break destinations like Florida and the Caribbean in April, although you should book within the next two weeks. Airfare is about $275 to Orlando and $431 to Cancun, according to Hopper.
