Some major developments around Watford, including two hotels and hundreds of homes are progressing through the planning process.

This is done in public via the planning portal so that residents know what could be on the way for the town they live in.

This list rounds-up the latest on a few of the most significant schemes.

Residents can give their views, alongside official consultees such as highways, flood risk, and heritage experts.

See the list below:

One submitted at the end of 2023, for the area nearest Station Road, seeks permission for a 363-flat tower.

This left the consultation phase in December 2024 after Hertfordshire County Council Highways dropped their long-standing objection in response to amendments to the proposal.

It is now ready for the Watford Borough Council planning committee to decide on.

Highways recommended refusal in December.

A travel plan was submitted to try and get the objection lifted earlier this month, which Highways has not yet responded to.

(Image: Watford Riverwell/Watford Borough Council/Daniel Watney) Members of the development management committee will meet on April 1 to decide whether plans for a five-storey 131-room Travelodge as part of the Riverwell development near Watford General Hospital can go ahead.

The plan has been recommended for approval ahead of the meeting.

Tower to replace The Quarters

Concerns were reiterated as they maintained their objection in a letter last week. Other consultees have also requested more information.

Whippendell Wood-adjacent 600-home scheme

Although it falls under Three Rivers District Council’s Croxley Green area, it will be just across Rousebarn Lane from Watford’s Whippendell Wood and Cassiobury Park.

The idea faces 674 objections and a recommendation for refusal from Highways.

The applicant has written responses to consultees seeking to reassure them, including addressing heritage concerns in a document shared today (March 28).

This paves the way for a full or outline planning application to be submitted to Three Rivers District Council.

The applicant had previously indicated that work would get under way in 2025 if the plan is approved.
