After what felt like a very long winter, spring is finally here which means brighter days and (hopefully) better weather. There’s no finer way to embrace it than with a trip to the coast.

It might be too cold for a dip in the sea or a sunbathe on the sand just yet, but a visit to the beach on a fresh spring day can blow the cobwebs away.

From seaside resorts like Llandudno to Anglesey’s sandy coves, North Wales is well-known for its incredible coastline. Dotted along it are dozens of amazing beaches with breathtaking views.

One of these is Morfa Beach Conwy, which is just a stone’s throw away from the iconic town. Located on the southern side of the River Conwy estuary, Morfa Beach Conwy is a vast stretch of golden sand, backed by shingle and grassy sand dunes.

At low tide it connects with neighbouring beaches to form the Colwyn Bay - although due to fast-moving tides it can be risky walking across as you can get cut off.

The beauty of this beach is that you won’t find donkey rides, attractions and crowds of tourists. Instead it’s much more natural and wild, making it a popular spot for walks beside the sea, with incredible views across Conwy Bay shoreline and towards the Great Orme.

Dogs are welcome on the beach all-year round, so you don’t have to leave your four-legged friend at home. One reviewer on Tripadvisor praised how dog-friendly it was, GlappyCass wrote: “Truly dog friendly beach that seems to go on forever, my dog spent quite some time off lead running in the wet sand and edge of the sea.

“If you aren’t a dog owner or lover don’t be put off, there’s so much beach there’s room for everyone and it is so clean.” Another reviewer, DonDons 369 wrote: “Great place to take the dog for a lovely long walk and run.”

Even if you’re not a dog-owner, the beach is still a lovely place to visit for a walk beside the sea. One visitor described it as a “hidden gem” and another described it as an: “absolutely beautiful beach surrounded by mountains.”

Morfa Beach Conwy is also famous for its sea glass, with visitors regularly finding gem-like pieces of glass smoothed by the sea, so keep your eyes peeled as you walk along the shore.

There’s a free car park on Beach Road, LL32 8GA, although be warned it can get busy on weekends and during the holidays.
