WEST PITTSTON – The first matchup of the top tennis players in the Wyoming Valley Conference lived up to its billing Friday.

After dropping the first set, Wyoming Seminary’s Billy Hall rallied against Wyoming Area’s Luca Argenio to capture the next two in a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles. It led to a Blue Knight sweep as Seminary got past the Warriors, 5-0.

Hall, a District 2 Class 2A singles’ semifinalist last season, dropped the first set, 2-6, but rallied against Argenio, a 2A finalist one year ago. Hall dropped just three of the next 15 games to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Seminary also got wins from Stefan Zecar and Yicheng Li at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. The Blue Knights’ doubles teams of Andrew Tsui-Luka Radovanovic and Diego Alcoz-Alexandre Gilbert were all straight-set winners.

Singles: Hall over Argenio, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2; Zecar over Abromavage, 6-0, 6-0; Li over Winslow, 6-2, 6-2. Doubles: Tsui-Radovanovic over Panek-Wang, 6-0, 6-0; Alcoz-Gilbert over Mazda-Tang, 6-0, 6-0.

Crestwood 4, Holy Redeemer 1: At Crestwood, the Comets won two singles matches and swept doubles en route to the WVC victory.

Sean Rossi and Spencer Young won singles matches for Crestwood, combining to drop just one game.

Frank Klimovitz picked up the Royals’ lone point with a straight-set victory over Tommy Biscotti.

Singles: Klimovitz (HR) over Biscotti, 6-1, 6-1; Rossi (CRE) over White, 6-1, 6-0; Young (CRE) over Antinnes, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles: Kogoy-Savner (CRE) over Sock-Matechak, 6-0, 6-0; Groth-Modrovsky (CRE) over Bowen-Hoffman, 6-2, 6-1.

MMI Prep 5, Lake-Lehman 0: At Lake-Lehman, MMI won every game in the singles’ matches to pull away from Lake-Lehman.

Xavier Bleiler, Max Bleiler and Sharan Parikh all won their matches, 6-0, 6-0.

Singles: X. Bleiler over Mat, 6-0, 6-0; M. Bleiler over Matreselva, 6-0, 6-0; Parikh over Franks, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles: Mayernik-Farrell over Gallagher-Jenkins, 7-5, 6-4; Moore-Reymunde over Ronzcka-Pericich, 7-5, 10-6.

Baseball

Wyoming Seminary 11, Blue Ridge 1: At Wyoming Seminary, Leo Nockley had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs in Wyoming Seminary’s nonleague win.

Antek Evan went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Teddy Kraus had two hits and scored two runs. Caleb Aponick pitched the first four innings to get the win. He also had two hits.

Dunmore 8, Hanover Area 1: At Dunmore, Max Forgione had two hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs to lead the Bucks past the Hawkeyes in a nonleague game.

Matt Iezzi had two hits, one RBI and one run, and Bobby Hoban added two hits, three RBIs and one run for Dunmore.

Ben Kolbicka had a hit and an RBI for Hanover Area.

MMI Prep 11, Weatherly 0: At MMI Prep, Caleb Skuba tossed a five-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts and had two hits, including a triple, in a nonleague win Friday.

Lucas Pesotine had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two. Michael Kranyak had two hits, including a double, drove in two and scored twice.

Northwest 6, Susquehanna 1: At Northwest, Cody Wilson tossed a complete-game three-hitter and helped his cause at the plate with two hits and an RBI in Northwest’s nonleague win.

Dominic Cavuto broke open a close game with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning.

William Marcy doubled and homered for Susquehanna.

Softball

Tunkhannock 15, Morgantown (WV) 0: At Myrtle Beach, SC, Tunkhannock wrapped up its trip down south with a victory Friday morning.

McKenzie Hannon tossed a five-inning, two-hitter with six strikeouts to lead the Tigers. She also had a pair of doubles and drove in one run.

Addisyn Waterman had two hits, including a double. Alli Kinney had three hits, two of them doubles, and drove two. Lucy Karp had three hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Kayden Bamberger had two hits and drove in two, while MaKenzie Bevan had a triple, two singles and three RBIs.

Holy Redeemer 15, Crestwood 5 (6 inn): At Crestwood, Holy Redeemer broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Comets in nonleague softball.

Zoe Pecuch and Abby Williams each had four hits for the Royals. Williams doubled, homered and had four RBIs while Pecuch had two doubles and also drove in four runs. Katie Genovese also drove in four, and Bella Boylan hit a home run.

Kendall Mendrzycki finished 3 for 4 for the Comets, and Brooke Lenehan added two hits.

Mid Valley 10, Wilkes-Barre Area 0 (5 inn): In Throop, Elise Larson had three hits, including a triple, and three runs to lead the Spartanettes.

Mackenzie Adolfson had two hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs, and Krista Cortazar had two hits, including a triple, four RBIs and two runs for Mid Valley.

Ava Hazelton pitched five innings, allowing one hit and walking one while striking out seven.

Hope Burke had Wilkes-Barre Area’s lone hit.

Northwest Area 11, Sullivan County 1 (5 inn): At Sullivan County, Northwest scored seven times in the fourth to pick up the mercy-rule victory.

Natalia Ninotti had three hits and two RBIs, and Jordin Bowman knocked in three runs. Ashlyn Hermanofski, Jenna Robaczewski and Addisyn Diltz each had two hits.

Robaczewski tossed a five-inning two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Boys lacrosse

Scranton Prep 16, Holy Redeemer 3: At Holy Redeemer, Scranton Prep had 11 players score in a a WVC win Friday.

Brady Holmes had three goals while Grady Toolan and Braedon McPartland each had two scores for Prep.

Tristan Block, Casey Kovaleski and Mason Courvie each had a goal for Redeemer.

Crestwood 15, Tunkhannock 0: At Crestwood, the Comets netted 13 goals in the first half to pick up the win.

Aston Amend had the hot stick for the Comets, netting a game-best five goals. Caleb Eisenhauer had a hat trick, and teammates Logan Lawson, Travis Dominski and Brady Davidson combined for 14 faceoffs.

Tunkhannock’s Jadyn Thompson stopped 15 shots.

Lake-Lehman 8, Dallas 6: At Lake-Lehman, Anthony Magnotta scored four goals to lead the Black Knights in the annual Pass the Stick match.

Logan Law added two goals for the winners as Dominik Brown stopped 10 shots.

Jack Fleury and Connor Hivish each scored twice for the Mountaineers.
