Even though Placer.ai data has shown a slight decrease so far this year in visitors to Jefferson County, Visit Madison Inc. Executive Director Andrew Forrester said at Monday’s VMI meeting he’s seeing a trend that visitors are staying longer.
Forrester said the average number of nights per trip has shown a “steady increase over the last six or seven years which is really, really cool to see. Even though we may be down on unique visitors (according to Placer.ai), they’re staying longer.”
Forrester said, “What we’re seeing and hearing is that people that would have made a day trip are now saying they’re coming for more nights.”
In other business, Beth Lewis, owner of Old Tyme Marketplace, was welcomed as a new member of the VMI board. Forrester also announced that Jakob Liggett, general manager of the Eagle Cotton Mill Fairfield Inn and Suites, will be joining the board in April.
Forrester also updated about groups planning upcoming conferences in Jefferson County including: Hoosier Outdoor Writers in April, Indiana Association of Realtors in May and the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association in June.
