African American women’s group offers scholarships
The North County African American Women’s Association and North Island Credit Union are partnering to offer scholarships and financial literacy programming to college-bound female students of African American descent in North County.Four $2,500 NCAAWA/North Island Credit Union scholarships are offered for graduating high school seniors, current ROP, trade school, college and/or graduate students in Carlsbad, Escondido, Fallbrook, Oceanside, San Dieguito, San Marcos and Vista.Special consideration will be given to students pursuing degrees in education. In addition to the North Island Credit Union scholarships, NCAAWA is providing scholarship programs to qualified North County students. Online applications will be accepted through March 31. April’s Spring Fling Games Day to be held in Solana Beach
Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC), the City of Solana Beach Parks and Recreation and Let’s Play a Game Foundation invites all to a celebrate April’s Spring Fling at their monthly Games Day on Thursday, April 10 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This free event will take place at La Colonia Community Center located at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach.

Songs of Hope – Free Spring Choral Concert
Offering a message of hope that spans centuries, musical styles and faith traditions, the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe presents a free Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m. Songs of Hope features internationally recognized organist Nathaniel Gumbs, director of chapel music at Yale University. The Forum Carlsbad, 1905 Calle Barcelona, will put on its Spring Art & Wine Walk from 3 to 6 p.m. April 5 featuring a showcase of art along with wine tastings and live music. Agricultural celebration at Flower Fields
An agricultural celebration, Graze at the Fields, will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 24 at the Carlsbad Flower Fields. The event features food and drink among the flowers and a chance to talk with local farmers, vintners, brewers and chefs. The event is hosted by the San Diego County Farm Bureau, a nonprofit supporting the more than 4,000 farms in San Diego County. I Love A Clean San Diego to hold annual Creek to Bay Cleanup
I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is set to host the annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 100 cleanup sites are available for volunteers to sign up for across the County. All are also invited to join the official Creek to Bay Kickoff Event at Montgomery Waller Community Park that day. The kickoff site is located at Montgomery Waller Community Park, 3020 Coronado Ave, San Diego, 92154. More than 100 additional sites across the county.

Bike Anywhere Day returns May 15
In celebration of National Bike Month, SANDAG invites the San Diego region to participate in Bike Anywhere Day from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15. SANDAG has hosted the annual biking event in the region for more than 30 years. Bike Anywhere Day aims to alleviate traffic and reduce air pollution while promoting biking as a fun, sustainable, and healthy transportation choice, according to a news release.Bike Anywhere Day is a free event open to everyone. Golf tournament benefits Shelter to Soldier
Shelter to Soldier will host its sixth annual “Saving Lives, One Swing at a Time” golf tournament April 25 at Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan, 3007 Dehesa Road. Veterans to climb Mount Everest
Navy veteran Brian O’Malley, who was based in San Diego for 10 years, and his brother-in-law Steve McDaniel, an Air Force veteran and former police officer, are attempting to summit Mount Everest in June to honor military service members and first responders. Their expedition is intended to raise awareness and financial support for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports responders and military who sustained life-changing injuries and fatalities.
