John Henry Schneiter, 94, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services held at this time. A private family joint inurnment for both John and Joan is being planned for a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
John was born on March 9, 1931, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of William and Elizabeth (Mettler) Schneiter. He was a 1951 graduate of Monticello High School, where he excelled in basketball and football. John served honorably in the United States Army as a military police officer in Korea from 1952 until 1954. On October 10, 1954, John was united in marriage to Joan Hannah Eilers in Anamosa, Iowa. He lived most of his adult life in Marion, becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #298, VFW Post #788, and the ARC. John loved spending time with his family, traveling, camping, and playing cards. John also loved sports and going to games and was an avid and loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Janice (Jeff) Mick of Mount Vernon, Julie (Steve) Crowley of Marion, David (Susan) Schneiter of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Jane Schneiter of Marion; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew Ballard) Mick, Jason (Jessica St. John) Mick, Eric Crowley, Kaitlyn (Todd) Schuring, Sarah (Ryan) Cannella, and Anna Schneiter (fiancé, Keegan Durfee); and great-grandchildren, Sullivan Ballard, Reid Ballard, Cora Schuring, Nolan Schuring, and Cal Cannella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 68 years, Joan (d. April 14, 2023); and three sisters, one at infancy, and Hilda Busch, and Margaret Schneiter.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at both Hallmark Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the love, care and support they gave to John during his stay and final days.
