A police officer has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Arima on Monday night.
Police say two individuals were traveling along Manuel Congo Road, Gunapo, around 10pm, when a silver Nissan Wingroad pulled in front of them.
The suspect, who is the ex-spouse of the female occupant, exited the Wingroad and allegedly drew a licensed firearm. The driver of the other vehicle, fearing for safety, attempted to leave the area, and two gunshots were heard.
The individuals then reported the incident at the La Horquetta Police Station. Upon inspection, officers found a small hole in the rear left door of the vehicle.
A short time later, the alleged shooter arrived at the station and was arrested.
His firearm was also confiscated.
The officer claimed he had received a call stating that one of the individuals was in distress and that their phone had been taken. He said he attempted to stop the vehicle and fired at its tire out of concern.
