President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the constitutional review process is a national assignment and not a partisan initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Constitution Review Committee, Mr Mahama underscored the importance of unity and collective progress in shaping Ghana’s governance framework.
“This exercise is not about any political party. It is about Ghana. It is about ensuring that our Constitution reflects the values, hopes, and dreams of every Ghanaian, regardless of their background or affiliation,” Mahama stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the constitutional amendments through, stressing that past review efforts must not be in vain.
He also acknowledged the work of previous administrations, including former Presidents John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Akufo-Addo, who initiated review processes in 2010 and 2023, respectively.
Mahama assured the committee that their task was crucial in strengthening Ghana’s democracy, urging them to engage widely with citizens to ensure the revised constitution reflects the aspirations of all Ghanaians.
“This must be a turning point—a moment when Ghana moves decisively from discussion to action,” he added.
