Suspect in killing of Border Patrol agent in Vermont back in court on Thursday
The woman charged in the death of a Border Patrol agent in northern Vermont was back in court on Thursday morning following her arrest last week.
Teresa Youngblut appeared in U.S. District Court in Burlington for a detention hearing following her initial appearance earlier this week. NBC5 was in the courtroom for Thursday's hearing.
The judge in the case ordered Youngblut held without bail or conditions until her preliminary hearing on the afternoon of Feb. 7.
The prosecution spoke during the brief hearing, and Youngblut and her defense team declined to speak. Youngblut wore an arm sling and a mask and faced forward for the duration of the hearing.
The prosecution argued that Youngblut should not be allowed bail or release, and called her a flight risk due to several factors. Those included a lack of ties to Vermont and a lack of information about her employment.
Youngblut also has a history of international travel and ties to several other states. Most importantly, they argued, the violent nature of her alleged actions and the charges against her made her a threat to the public if released, they said.
No cameras or recording devices were allowed in the courtroom for the hearing.
NBC5 will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
