THE 21-YEAR-OLD FACING CHARGES FOR ALLEGEDLY FATALLY SHOOTING A U-S BORDER PATROL AGENT. THIS MORNING FACING A JUDGE TO DETERMINE WHETHER SHE WOULD BE OFFERED THE POSSIBILITY OF BAIL OR CONDITIONS OR REMAIN BEHIND BARS AHEAD OF HER TRIAL. NBC5S ANNA GUBER WAS IN COURT TODAY AND JOINS US LIVE FROM THE COURTHOUSE NOW. SO ANNA WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME? JACK, THE JUDGE RULED TERESA YOUNGBLUT BE HELD WITHOUT COMMUNITY IF RELEASED. DOZENS PEOPLE PACKED THE COURTROOM TO LEARN WHETHER TERESA YOUNGBLUT WOULD BE HELD OR GIVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF BAIL OR CONDITIONS AHEAD OF HER TRIAL. DURING THE HEARING THE PROSECUTION argued YOUNGBLUTS ESCALATION OF VIOLENCE IN AN OTHERWISE NON VIOLENT LAW ENFORCEMENT STOP. THAT LED TO THE FATAL SHOOTING OF U-S BORDER PATROL AGENT DAVID CHRIS MALAND... SUGGEST SHE POSES TOO GREAT OF A THREAT TO THE COMMUNITY IF SHE'S RELEASED PENDING HER TRIAL. THE STATE ALSO CALLING ATTENTION TO THE LACK OF TIES YOUNGBLUT HAS TO VERMONT... and that she DECLINED A PRETRIAL INTERVIEW THAT WOULD PROVIDE THE COURT INFORMATION ABOUT HER RESIDENCE, EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO HER. they say that the combination of that and YOUNGBLUTS CONNECTIONS TO INDIVIDUALS IN OTHER STATES... make her TOO GREAT OF A FLIGHT RISK. THE DEFENSE DID NOT OFFER AN ARGUMENT TODAY. THE JUDGE ULTIMATELY RULING THAT THE STATE MET THEIR BURDEN OF PROOF AND ORDERED YOUNGBLUT TO BE HELD WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF BAIL OR CONDITIONS

      The woman charged in the death of a Border Patrol agent in northern Vermont was back in court on Thursday morning following her arrest last week.Teresa Youngblut appeared in U.S. District Court in Burlington for a detention hearing following her initial appearance earlier this week. NBC5 was in the courtroom for Thursday's hearing.The judge in the case ordered Youngblut held without bail or conditions until her preliminary hearing on the afternoon of Feb. 7.The prosecution spoke during the brief hearing, and Youngblut and her defense team declined to speak. Youngblut wore an arm sling and a mask and faced forward for the duration of the hearing.The prosecution argued that Youngblut should not be allowed bail or release, and called her a flight risk due to several factors. Those included a lack of ties to Vermont and a lack of information about her employment. Youngblut also has a history of international travel and ties to several other states. Most importantly, they argued, the violent nature of her alleged actions and the charges against her made her a threat to the public if released, they said.No cameras or recording devices were allowed in the courtroom for the hearing.NBC5 will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
