Deputies: Missing Upstate kids found safe in Texas, father in custody
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said a missing father and his young sons were found safe in Texas on Wednesday.
Deputies said James Brewington and his two children, six and five years old, were reported missing Tuesday, Jan. 28.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brewington and his sons had not been seen since he made a stop at an elementary school in Belton to pick up one of his sons.
Deputies previously said they were last seen around Wright School Road in a green 1985 Ford F350. The vehicle was later located along Stryker Trail in Belton on Wednesday.
On Jan. 29, deputies took Brewington into custody in Kemp, Texas, and his sons were deemed safe and unharmed.
Deputies said Brewington had ties to Texas and traveled that way after abandoning the Ford. The family was spotted getting into a Ford Edge with a North Carolina license place.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division tracked him to the state and requested assistance from Texas Rangers and Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office to locate Brewington.
He is facing two counts of custodial interference and will be transported back to South Carolina.
