New time for low-cost Singapore-Sibu route

Singapore’s low-cost airline Scoot has retimed its Singapore to Sibu, in Sarawak, flight to 12.35pm from 5.25am.

Dudong SUPP chairman Wong Ching Yong (pic) said the airline had agreed to change the flight time after the timing issue was highlighted recently.

He had requested for the airline to change the flight time for the convenience of passengers.

On March 11, he had said the original time of 5.25am for the Singapore-Sibu route was too early.

As a result, passengers would likely have to spend a night at the airport or a nearby hotel to catch the early morning flight, he added.

Better flight times were necessary to make it easier for Sibu locals to return home from Singapore and for tourists to visit the town, Wong reasoned.

He hopes the new flight time will be permanent as he believes it will bring a steady stream of tourists to Sibu.

He also thanked Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin for his efforts in negotiating the arrangement with Scoot on the flight timing.

Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines is expected to start its Singapore-Sibu and Singapore-Miri routes on June 5.

The flights will be three times a week to Sibu and four times a week to Miri. ― By ANDY CHUA
