Briefs: Marriott brings Ritz-Carlton Reserve to Trojena; IHCL adds to Indian portfolio

MARRIOTT BRINGS RITZ-CARLTON RESERVE TO TROJENA: Marriott International is adding another Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Saudi Arabia and has signed an agreement with NEOM to open a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Trojena, the year-round mountain destination. The resort will feature 60 one- to four-bedroom villas along with amenities such as a spa, pools and multiple dining options. Located in a remote area in Trojena, in the country’s northwest region, the resort will offer views across the desert and mountain ranges. A flagship development in NEOM, Trojena is being developed as a year-round adventure sports destination, where travelers can also enjoy activities like mountain biking, hiking, skiing and water sports. Trojena will consist of hotels (including a W Hotel and a JW Marriott Hotel), apartments, chalets, dining and entertainment venues, retail space, sports and recreational offerings. Trojena is scheduled to complete and open to visitors in late 2026 and will host the Asian Winter Games in 2029. The signing marks the seventh collaboration announced between Marriott and NEOM. At present, Ritz-Carlton Reserve’s portfolio includes six properties in destinations such as Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia and Puerto Rico.

IHCL ADDS IN EASTERN INDIA: Indian hotels Co. Ltd. (IHCL) has added to its eastern Indian portfolio with the opening of a Vivanta hotel in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Vivanta Jamshedpur features 95 rooms along with a signature all-day diner, a restaurant, bar, gym, rooftop pool and more than 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor banqueting space. With the addition of this hotel, IHCL will have two properties in Jharkhand. Since IHCL opened its first hotel in Mumbai in 1903, the group’s portfolio has expanded to comprise 310 hotels, including 90 under development, across four continents.

U.S. PERFORMANCE UPDATE: Hotel performance in the U.S. showed mixed results from the week prior, according to data by CoStar through April 20.

  • Occupancy: 66.8% (-0.3%)
  • ADR: $158.6 (+1.5%)
  • RevPAR: $105.94 (+1.2%)

Among the top 25 markets, Philadelphia saw the highest YOY increases in occupancy (+14.3% to 72.1%) and RevPAR (+23.2% to $114.11). Washington, D.C., witnessed the only double-digit lift in ADR (+10% to $226.25). The steepest RevPAR declines were seen in Chicago (-16.2% to $105.97) and San Francisco (-9.7% to $123.76).  

SONESTA EXPANDS RED LION PORTFOLIO: Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has opened Red Lion Inn & Suites Elk Grove. The 47-key, midscale hotel is located in Elk Grove, Calif. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast and hot beverage and features a business center and laundry service. This marks the third hotel to open this year under the Red Lion Inn & Suites brand. Sonesta’s total portfolio currently includes 1,100 properties totaling 100,000 rooms under 15 brands across eight countries.

HANYC ANNUAL GALA: The Hotel Association of NYC Foundation, the charitable unit of the Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC), hosted its annual Red Carpet Hospitality Gala at The Intercontinental Barclay in Manhattan on April 1. The event honored Susan Santiago, president, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts U.S. and Canada, with its Hospitality Award and Robin Hood Foundation’s CEO Richard R. Buery, Jr. with its Humanitarian Award. The event also featured keynote remarks by former New York Governor David A. Paterson and Loews Hotels Executive Chairman Jonathan M. Tisch. Proceeds from the gala support the HANYC Foundation’s charitable goals and educational initiatives.
