A football supporter has tragically died in Qatar after travelling to the country for the World Cup. Wales supporter Kevin Davies had gone to the tournament with his son.

The 62-year-old, from Pembrokeshire, reportedly died of natural causes on Friday, November 24. He was not at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium to watch Wales' 2-0 defeat to Iran.

His family back home is said to be receiving UK consular help, supported by Wales fan groups and the Football Association of Wales, Mirror reports.

Welsh fan group Fan Embassy Wales tweeted about the sad news. They said: "Unfortunately we have lost one of the Red wall yesterday in Qatar, our sincere condolences go out to his son here in Doha and his family back in Wales. May he rest in peace."

The FAW then issued a statement, which read: "Our deepest condolences from everyone at the Football Association of Wales. Our thoughts are with Kevin's family and friends at this sad time. The FAW is in contact with Kevin's family to help in whatever way we can."

FA chief executive Nole Mooney tweeted: "So sorry to hear that one of our Supporters has passed away here. Our condolences go to the family and of course we are here to support however we can."

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman, added: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Qatar."

Around 6,000 Wales fans are believed to be in Qatar for the country's first World Cup in 64 years, more than double the number who had been expected to travel. Rob Page's side earned a point in their opening game against the USA thanks to a Gareth Bale penalty, but Friday's 2-0 defeat to Iran - which came via two stoppage-time goals - means that the prospect of reaching the last-16 now appears to be a remote one.

Wales play their final match of Group B against neighbours England on Tuesday.
