A German schoolgirl who joined Islamic State told her mum ‘I have ruined my life’ after they were reunited on TV in Iraq.

Katharina Wenzel, 48, flew to Baghdad with her other daughter Miriam to visit Linda Wenzel, 17.

Linda had travelled to Istanbul when she was 15 to meet a Muslim man after she was groomed online.

She eventually made her way to Mosul, in Iraq, where she was captured by soldiers in July.

Her dramatic reunion with her mother was broadcast on German public TV channel ‘Das Erste’.

Both of them seemed hesitant at first before embracing.

Linda told her mum at the Baghdad police station: ‘I do not know, how I came up with the stupid idea to go to the Islamic State.

‘I have ruined my life.’

Mrs Wernzel gave her daughter a cuddly toy that was wearing a Christmas hat during the reunion.

Linda’s father Reiner Wenzel has admitted he is worried after Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi previously said his daughter could be executed.

She could also be jailed for ten years for being a member of a terrorist group.

Reiner Wenzel added: ‘I want so much that my Linda comes home again healthy. I will always be there for her.

‘I fear for her. The authorities absolutely have to bring her to Germany so that she can get a fair trial.’

Linda has denied she fought for Isis and according to security services she remains unrepentant.

She said following the death of her jihadist husband Abu Usama al-Shishani, from Chechnya, she stayed in women’s quarters and rarely left.

She will go on trial in Baghdad next month after Iraq refused to extradite her to Germany.
