Bryan Traditions Club, Home of Texas AandM Golf, Breaks Ground for 'Green' Village Complex Clubhouse for Community Events, Dining, Conferences

October 31, 2009

Traditions Club, Texas AandM golf teams, the City of Bryan and The Research Valley will have a new focal point for events when the long-awaited clubhouse is completed next fall 2010. The festive slab breaking was held this week with construction plans unveiled for the complex.

BRYAN, TX, October 31, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ground has been broken for the long-awaited clubhouse at Traditions Club and community, the home of Texas A&M golf. Construction is beginning this week with completion scheduled for the fall football season of 2010. Traditions Club is a private, country club community with a Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the center of more than 1,000 acres of beautifully rolling terrain in Bryan, Texas. It is located in the heart of The Research Valley next door to Texas A&M University and also very near the popular George Bush Presidential Library.

Spencer Clements, a general partner of Traditions Club, at a joyful slab breaking event on the property, unveiled renderings of the four-building complex : a golf shop with administrative offices, a men's locker room, a women's locker room and a building housing the restaurant/bar, banquet and conference space and kitchen. The village concept will emphasize outdoor areas and functionality.

"The clubhouse complex will be built by Vaughn Construction as one project and will be the focal point of the Traditions community," said Clements, speaking for his Aggie partners including Peter H. Currie, Michael D. Rupe and David R. Segers, all Texas A&M graduates who assumed management of Traditions earlier this year.

Clements said the clubhouse complex will be "green" with Kirksey Architects working closely with environmental specialists Redding Linden Burr on geothermal exchange.

The clubhouse complex will be about 21,000 square feet of air-conditioned and heated space plus outdoor walkways and patios bringing the whole complex up to 25,000 square feet. Houston-based Kirksey Architects highlights the casual design with an exterior palette of field stone, plaster, clear cedar and metal roofing. Covered walkways connect the buildings and provide a transition from indoor to outdoor space in a layered effect that reinforces connections to the golf course. Windows and doors are residential in scale and interior finishes are natural, warm and harmonious.

"We are seeing excellent real estate activity at Traditions," Clements added. "The new 200-acre Texas A&M Health Science Center adjacent to the Traditions Club property, is topped out and they have announced the Texas Brain and Spine Institute, also. We get regular inquiries from people interested in lots who will be involved with the Health Science Center. It will bring with it an estimated $1 billion economic impact to this area," said Clements.

J.T. Higgins, coach of the Texas A&M's men's national champions said, "The Wahlberg Learning Center at Traditions Golf Club has been instrumental in our success. It has helped players develop their games and also helped us to attract some of the best young junior golfers from around the country to Texas A&M."

Bryan Deputy City Manager Joey Dunn sees a lot of growth opportunity in the remaining 350 undeveloped acres at Tradition Club. "The City of Bryan is privileged to have a new partner the caliber of the Traditions Acquisition Partnership Group. We believe this facility will be the pride of Traditions and the City of Bryan."
